Selling the house peacefully is possible during divorce

Dissolving a marriage in California can be a stressful process due to the financial decisions that must be made. One of these major decisions is what to do about the family home. A few tips may help couples who wish to sell the family home as part of their divorce proceedings to do so effectively.

According to research, over 60 percent of divorce proceedings involve selling the marital home. Sometimes a spouse can buy the other one out, but this is not always possible. When two spouses agree to simply sell the house, hiring a real estate agent that both of them trust is critical. After all, even the most amicable of divorce proceedings can become sour over time.

In addition to hiring an agent together, the two spouses may benefit from working together to create a sales plan. Not being in agreement about how the house is sold may unfortunately end up undermining the sale. In addition, it may be helpful to choose one spouse to primarily communicate with the agent and then share what was discussed with the other party, as this streamlines the communication process.

Getting a divorce in California is not easy from either an emotional or a financial standpoint. However, the more amicable the divorce is, the easier it is to get through. If two spouses are willing to try to find common ground during their divorce proceedings, they might benefit from going through negotiations or divorce mediation. This may enable them to reach a mutually beneficial agreement without further court intrusion.
