A child support modification may be your best option

Long after a divorce is final, life continues to change, and your financial circumstances may also change with it. California mothers and fathers who are currently unable to live with or keep up with the terms of an existing support order may be curious about their options at this point. In some cases, a child support modification may be appropriate.

Changing an existing child support order is not always easy, but there are some circumstances that would warrant taking the appropriate legal steps necessary to accomplish this objective. If a parent believes that he or she has a rightful claim to more child support because of changed circumstances, that could be valid grounds for a modification. Such circumstances may include newly diagnosed medical needs, educational needs and more.

In some cases, the supporting parent may find that he or she is unable to meet the demands of the current order. Whether it is due to health issues, job loss or other significant change to financial circumstances, this could be a valid reason to seek a modification. Child support matters are complicated, and any California parent with concerns over his or her rights would be wise to enlist the help of an experienced family law attorney.

If you believe that you need a child support modification, you do not have to navigate the legal process alone. By speaking with a lawyer, you can better understand your rights and the most appropriate course of action for seeking a change to your existing support order. You have the right to know your options when it comes to your interests and the well-being of your children.
