Divorce rate spikes this time of year

Coming off a busy, stressful and emotional holiday season, it is common for couples to decide to end their marriage in the month of January. In fact, divorce attorneys see a sharp increase in the number of filings in January, February and March. After the beginning of the new year, California residents who are unhappy in their marriages often begin to explore their options and gather the information they need to make beneficial decisions.

Divorce attorneys see an increase in the number of people coming in to learn about divorce at the beginning of the year, but not all of these couples end up filing. In some cases, it is worthwhile to simply explore available options and give every possibility careful consideration. Ending the marriage is not always the best choice, but a lawyer can help any individual think through options.

According to experts, there are many signs that a marriage could be headed for divorce. One of the most common signs is that a couple stops talking, even during the holidays. The holiday season is also a stressful financial time for many California couples, and a season when many couples accumulate additional debt. As readers know, money concerns and disagreements are some of the leading causes for divorce.

The holiday season itself may not actually cause divorce, but the issues that surface during this time of year can signal that a divorce is imminent. When divorce is a real possibility, a person would be wise to explore his or her legal options. A complete case evaluation can reveal the most appropriate way to move forward with this difficult choice.
