Television star requests alimony in pending divorce

One turns on the television set and there is what appears to be a loving couple starring in their own show. They have the opportunity to work together every day, helping other families make decisions about renovating their home or selling it in order to have the home that they want. For many viewers in California and elsewhere, this couple appears to be living a dream life. According to recent reports, this life apparently is not how it appears on television as the loving couple on the screen are now discussing divorce, child custody and alimony issues.

When a couple decides that it is time to separate and move on, there are many decisions that must be made. Money and children are often the driving force behind these decisions. In fact, there is often the question of who will have custody of the children, how assets will be divided and sometimes what alimony, if any, will be paid.

This past May, Tarek El Moussa and wife Christina, stars of "Flip or Flop," announced their decision to divorce. Recently, El Moussa has asked that he be granted spousal support and that he not be required to pay alimony to his soon to be ex-wife. He has also requested joint custody of their two children.

For many California couples, one individual earns more than the other. However, both individuals contribute to the family. When this is the case and divorce is the decision that is made, the question of spousal support, or alimony often becomes a concern. Experienced legal counsel can assist in deciding if this is an appropriate option in a particular situation.
