Kaley Cuoco and Ryan Sweeting's divorce to be affected by prenup

Couples preparing for marriage have a lot to consider. However, no engaged couple wants to think about the possibility of a future divorce. As no one knows what the future will bring, a prenuptial agreement may be a good option for California couples, especially couples who face a potential high-asset divorce in which much is at stake.

Kaley Cuoco and her tennis star husband, Ryan Sweeting, were married on New Year's Eve in 2013. Apparently, the couple has come to a mutual agreement to get divorced. According to recent reports, the actress has filed for divorce in a Los Angeles courtroom, following a separation earlier in the month. The couple has no children, and they may consider themselves lucky that children did not factor into the divorce, as child custody adds an entirely new element to divorce proceedings.

Cuoco reportedly cited irreconcilable differences in her filing. Perhaps luckily for her, in Nov. 2013, the couple signed a prenuptial agreement that will dictate how they split their assets. In addition, any spousal support will be based on the terms of the agreement.

Drafting and signing a prenuptial agreement can help ease the process and eliminate confusion and even litigation if and when divorce is necessary for California couples. It may be a good option for couples to draft a prenuptial agreement part of the wedding-planning process. Famous or not, all couples may find that speaking to a family law attorney to find out more information on prenuptial agreements is a good place to start the process.
